What it does
Speak into any app
Hold a key, talk, and let go. Clean text is pasted at your cursor, in whatever app you're using.
Cleaned up for you
Filler words and false starts are removed, and punctuation is fixed, so what lands is what you meant to say.
Knows your words
Add names and jargon to your custom dictionary, and Dictum spells them right.
How it works
- Step 1
Install
Open the DMG and drag Dictum to Applications.
- Step 2
Allow access
The first time, macOS asks for Microphone and Accessibility. Dictum needs both to hear you and to paste.
- Step 3
Get the models
On first run, Dictum downloads its speech and cleanup models. After that, dictation needs no connection.
- Step 4
Dictate
Hold Right Control or Fn, speak, and release to paste. Double-tap the key to go hands-free.
Privacy promise
Your voice and text never leave your Mac.
- Dictation stays on your Mac. Speech recognition and cleanup run on your Mac, and dictation never uses the network.
- Dictum goes online for three things only: license checks with aerograham.com (to activate, a daily refresh, and to deactivate), checks for updates, and downloading its speech and cleanup models from Hugging Face on first run, or when you pick a different model. None of these sends audio or text.
- No account and no analytics. A licensed Mac keeps working offline for 30 days after its last check.
The details are in our Privacy Policy.
System requirements
- An Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) on macOS 14 or later.
- An internet connection the first time, to download the models.
